Nalina lives with her mother. Her duties at home include carrying water, caring for animals and helping in the kitchen. There are 2 children in the family. Her mother is sometimes employed as a farmer.
As part of Compassion's ministry, Nalina participates in church activities, Vacation Bible School and youth group. She is also in high school where her performance is average. Singing, art and walking are her favorite activities.

Nalina lives on the plains of Kalapanahali, home to approximately 3,200 residents. Typical houses are constructed of cement and have tile roofs. The primary ethnic group is Adi Karnataka and the most commonly spoken languages are Kannada, Telugu and Tamil.
The regional diet consists of beans, raggi (lentils), chicken and rice. Common health problems in this area include skin diseases, communicable diseases and malnutrition. Most adults in Kalapanahali work as laborers and earn the equivalent of $62 per month. This community needs improved sanitation, improved school facilities and supplementary forms of income.
Your sponsorship allows the staff of Asha Deepam Child Development Center to provide Nalina with Bible teaching, nutritious meals, health education, sports, field trips, talent shows, tuition and handicraft training. The center staff will also provide meetings, health education and parenting skills training for the parents or guardians of Nalina.

The country now has a federal republic, and Pratibha Patil was elected the first female president of India in 2007.
