Vamsi lives with his father and his mother. His duties at home include carrying water, buying or selling in the market and cleaning. There are 2 children in the family. His father is sometimes employed as a laborer and his mother maintains the home.
For fun, Vamsi enjoys art, walking and hide-and-seek. He attends church activities and Vacation Bible School regularly and is in middle school where his performance is average.

Vamsi lives on the plains of Schedule Cast, Fishermen, home to approximately 45,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, brick walls and tin roofs. The primary ethnic groups are Schedule Cast Mala and Madiga and the most commonly spoken language is Telugu.
The regional diet consists of bananas, chicken, rice and potatoes. Common health problems in this area include malaria, tuberculosis and diarrhea. Most adults are unemployed but some work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $50 per month. This community needs tuition assistance and income-generating programs.
