In her home, Tatiana helps by making beds and cleaning. She lives with her father and her mother. Her father is sometimes employed as a laborer and her mother maintains the home.

For fun, Tatiana enjoys baseball and running. She attends church activities, Bible class and Vacation Bible School regularly and is in primary school where her performance is above average.

Because of your sponsorship, Tatiana will have new opportunities to learn and grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. Thank you for your concern and prayers.
Tatiana lives in the mountainous community of Canton El Chaperno, home to approximately 3,500 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls and tin roofs. The regional diet consists of maize, beans and rice.

Common health problems in this area include renal diseases, respiratory illnesses, stomach infections, dengue, conjunctivitis and malnutrition. Half of the adults in Canton El Chaperno are unemployed but some work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $150 per month. This community has electricity but needs libraries, employment opportunities, vocational training centers, clean drinking water and recreation centers.

Your sponsorship allows the staff of Roca de Salud Student Center to provide Tatiana with Bible teaching, nutritious meals, medical checkups, hygiene and health education, special celebrations and academic reinforcement. The center staff will also provide special celebrations and meetings for the parents or guardians of Tatiana.
Most Salvadorans live in the country's subtropical central region of valleys and plateaus. A hot coastal plain is in the south and the north is mountainous. Nearly all the land is farmed; coffee is grown in the mountains.

Ninety percent of El Salvador's population is of mixed Indian and Spanish descent; about 60 percent live in urban areas. Although a few Indians have retained many of their old customs and traditions, most people have adopted the Spanish language and culture. Fifty-seven percent of Salvadorans are Catholic but there is extensive activity by Protestant groups and over twenty-one percent are Protestants. Compassion works in the central, southern and western regions of the country.

El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. Spain claimed the country in 1525. Almost 300 years later, El Salvador declared its independence and, after a brief union with Mexico, joined four other Central American countries to form a federation. When this union ended in 1838, El Salvador became a republic. The country experienced a period of increasing unrest during the 1970s that culminated in a civil war in the 1980s. In 1992, a peace agreement was reached.
