Kevin makes his home with his mother. Gathering firewood, making beds and running errands are his household duties. His mother is employed as a laborer.

For fun, Kevin enjoys soccer, art and running. He attends church activities and Bible class regularly and is in primary school where his performance is average.

Please remember Kevin in your prayers. Your love and support will help him to receive the assistance he needs to grow and develop.
Kevin lives in the forested community of Loma Alta, home to approximately 5,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, adobe walls and plastic sheet roofs. The spoken language is Spanish.

The regional diet consists of maize and beans. Common health problems in this area include malnutrition, viruses, gastroenteritis and dental decay. Half the adults in Loma Alta are unemployed but some work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $97 per month. This community needs educational materials and employment opportunities.

Your sponsorship allows the staff of Frater Niños para Cristo Student Center to provide Kevin with Bible teaching, medical and dental checkups, health education, special celebrations, field trips, sports and academic reinforcement. Forty percent of the children in this project are not attending school because they are underage. The center staff will also provide parenting education for the parents or guardians of Kevin.
Most Salvadorans live in the country's subtropical central region of valleys and plateaus. A hot coastal plain is in the south and the north is mountainous. Nearly all the land is farmed; coffee is grown in the mountains.

Ninety percent of El Salvador's population is of mixed Indian and Spanish descent; about 60 percent live in urban areas. Although a few Indians have retained many of their old customs and traditions, most people have adopted the Spanish language and culture. Fifty-seven percent of Salvadorans are Catholic but there is extensive activity by Protestant groups and over twenty-one percent are Protestants. Compassion works in the central, southern and western regions of the country.

El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. Spain claimed the country in 1525. Almost 300 years later, El Salvador declared its independence and, after a brief union with Mexico, joined four other Central American countries to form a federation. When this union ended in 1838, El Salvador became a republic. The country experienced a period of increasing unrest during the 1970s that culminated in a civil war in the 1980s. In 1992, a peace agreement was reached.
