Baba lives with his father and his mother. He is responsible for helping in the kitchen, running errands and cleaning. His father is sometimes employed and his mother is sometimes employed as a seller in the market. There are 5 children in the family.

As part of Compassion's ministry, Baba participates in Bible class. He is also in primary school where his performance is average. Soccer, basketball and playing with marbles are his favorite activities.

Because of your sponsorship, Baba will have new opportunities to learn and grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. Thank you for your concern and prayers.
Baba lives on the plains of Koko Secteur 4, home to approximately 100,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud or concrete brick walls and tin roofs. The primary ethnic group is Bobo and the most commonly spoken language is Dioula.

The regional diet consists of maize, beans, bananas, chicken, guinea pig, fish, bread, beef, plantains, rice, potatoes, goat and millet. Common health problems in this area include malaria, diarrhea, coughs, dermatitis and bronchitis. Most adults are unemployed but some work as subsistence farmers and earn the equivalent of $38 per month. This community needs affordable education, income generating activities and employment opportunities.

Your sponsorship allows the staff of CDE AD Koko to provide Baba with Bible teaching, games, health screening, health education, social clubs, tuition and field trips. In addition, reading and writing skills teaching is available for non-schooled children. The center staff will also provide monthly meetings for the parents or guardians of Baba.
Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in western Africa. It's slightly larger than Colorado and mostly flat with undulating plains and hills in the west and southeast. The country's climate is tropical with warm, dry winters, hot, dry summers and a three-month rainy season.

Burkina Faso, with a population of 13 million, is one of the poorest countries in the world. With no coastlines and ports, the country has few natural resources, fragile soil and an unequal distribution of income. About 90 percent of the population is engaged in agriculture, (mainly subsistence) which is vulnerable to variations in rainfall. The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the country is 1.6% of the population. French is the official language, although native African languages belonging to the Sudanic family are spoken by 90 percent of the population. About 50 percent of the population is Muslim, 40 percent practice indigenous religions and about 10 percent are Christian, both Catholic and Protestant.

Originally colonized by the French, Burkina Faso gained its independence in 1960. Repeated military coups during the 1970s and 1980s were followed by multiparty elections in the early 1990s. Burkina Faso's high population density and limited natural resources result in poor economic prospects for the majority of its citizens. Every year, thousands of seasonal farm workers seek employment in neighboring Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana where they are adversely affected by instability in those regions.
