National Pastor's Conference Call
On Wednesday, January 20, church leaders from across the nation joined Compassion International President Dr. Wess Stafford and his guests to discuss the church's response to the disaster in Haiti. Guests included Pastors Craig Groeschel of LifeChurch.tv, Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Community Church, and Andy Stanley of North Point Church.
Edouard Lassegue, Compassion Vice President of the Latin American Region, gave a brief update on the state of the Church in Haiti, and Compassion Vice President David Dahlin encouraged listeners that "out of these ashes, God can do something great."

Update from Haiti
- It is estimated that about 50 church partners and more than 15,000 children and their families have been severely affected by the quake.
- We have made contact with approximately 28 of our church partners and are accessing their damages and learning the status of the children.
- Working through our church partners in the Dominican Republic, Compassion is procuring water, medical supplies, food and temporary shelter and storing them in a secure warehouse near the Haiti border. Semi trucks then transport the supplies to our church partners in Port-au-Prince for distribution.
Volunteers Needed:
- We are looking for medical and counseling personnel who speak French/Kreyol and have trauma training and relief/combat experience.
What Church Leaders Can Do
- Pray for our Haiti and Dominican Republic staff. They are weary and discouraged with personal losses, but continue to serve faithfully. We rejoice that all 74 Compassion Haiti staff are accounted for. With heavy hearts we report that one staff member succumbed to injuries sustained during the earthquake.
- Give toward recovery efforts carried out by our local church partners in Haiti. They are beacons of light during this dark hour.
- Share the need with others and ask them to respond.
