WHAT:
Rocketing food prices — some of which have more than doubled in two years — have sparked riots in numerous countries recently. United Nations officials say that the rising prices are threatening to plunge more than 100 million people on every continent into hunger. The World Health Organization views hunger as the No. 1 threat to public health around the world, responsible for a third of child deaths and 10 percent of all disease.
