Compassion International Official Discusses Impact of Rising Prices

WHAT:

Rocketing food prices — some of which have more than doubled in two years — have sparked riots in numerous countries recently. United Nations officials say that the rising prices are threatening to plunge more than 100 million people on every continent into hunger. The World Health Organization views hunger as the No. 1 threat to public health around the world, responsible for a third of child deaths and 10 percent of all disease.

WHO:

Kathy Redmond is the International Program Communications Specialist for Compassion International and receives crisis reports from the 25 countries where Compassion works.

WHEN:

By appointment

DETAILS:

Compassion International, which has established a fund to deal with the crisis, works with more than 1 million children in Africa, Asia, Central and South America and the Caribbean. Some 4,500 indigenous churches from more than 65 denominations partner with Compassion. For more information, visit compassion.com.
