WHAT: At least 1,500 people have been killed in Kenya in the past two months following the disputed re-election of President Mwai Kibaki.
Compassion International, one of the world's largest Christian child development organizations based in Colorado Springs, has 24 projects at the center of the unrest.
School of the Rock decided to get involved when one student's parent – a Compassion child sponsor – notified the school, challenging it to take action. The school did. The entire school wrote letters of encouragement, hope and support to Compassion-assisted children and their families in Kenya, who have been devastated by the bloodshed.
WHO: Barrack Okal, a Compassion International employee from Kenya who lost his cousin in the violence, will accept the letters and address the school about the fighting in his homeland.
