Expertise: Compassion’s Ministry, Child Sponsorship, Leadership Development
Bob Cleary is the Product Marketing Director at Compassion International and is responsible for developing global product management strategies to enable the continued growth and quality of core programming, as well as the assurance of sponsor outcomes.
Bob’s involvement with Compassion’s products impacts child development and sponsor satisfaction during every step and milestone in their respective journeys with Compassion. From participating in strategy development on behalf of Compassion’s cross-ministry product management and brand councils, to understanding the implementation of programs in the field, Bob is one of the most authoritative sources for end-to-end information about the core ministries.
“We stand for children in poverty,” Bob says. “We are committed to serving these children and the church, and we follow Christ in all we do. We have the privilege of participating in God’s ministry and we try our very best to provide a rewarding opportunity to those who also have a heart to release children form poverty in Jesus’ name.”
A particular passion of Bob’s is Compassion’s Leadership Development Program. “This program identifies incredible young adults who have overcome monumental odds to be eligible for a first-rate university education and leadership mentoring. It’s so hard for people to understand the tremendous transition that takes place when moving from a life of deep poverty to one of post-secondary education and everything that comes with that. It’s a life normally reserved for privileged kids, but these leadership development students come out of it like stars.”
“The developing world faces deep levels of corruption at every level of society,” Bob continues. “The Leadership Development Program delivers young adults with character, a moral compass, intellectual capability, a commitment to Christ and deep-rooted aspirations to serve the very communities that they have come from. These are the leaders who will make a difference in the world.”
Bob has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising from Michigan State University. Prior to joining Compassion in 2009, Bob worked in product and brand management for companies such as Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s and Crayola. Bob also worked for McCann-Erickson Advertising on the Buick, GMC Truck and international Coca-Cola accounts.
Bob enjoys travel, movies and golf. He and his wife, Debbie, have two adult children.
