On the one year anniversary of the worst natural disaster of modern times, the “Remember Haiti With Compassion” campaign brought needed awareness to the ongoing suffering and need of the Haitian people through radio.
“Compassion is so thankful for the outpouring of generosity that is continually demonstrated by people of faith,” stated Mark Hanlon, Senior Vice President, Compassion International - USA Group. “At this crucial time, we cannot afford to have a short attention span when it comes to the needs of Haiti. The response to the radio campaigns is a blessing to the Haitian people.”
In partnering with Compassion International, Way-FM, KSGN, WRXT, WPER and WBYO brought in 2,365 child sponsorships for children living in extreme poverty in Haiti.
The Water of Life Campaign participants KKLA, KFSH, KLTY, KSKY and KWRD helped Compassion beneficiaries by raising over $225,000 to provide clean water, a basic need, to over 4,000 families in Haiti.
Each Water of Life unit consists of the filter and bucket kits, as well as training and education. Additional funds are used to find water sources within the larger community.
Further radio campaigns are planned to raise money for Water of Life and Compassion child sponsorship.
Compassion International is the world’s largest Christian child development organization that permanently releases children from poverty. Founded in 1952, Compassion successfully tackles global poverty one child at a time, serving more than 1 million children in 26 of the world’s poorest countries. Recognizing that poverty is more than a lack of money, Compassion works through local churches to holistically address the individual physical, economic, educational and spiritual needs of children - enabling them to thrive, not just survive. Compassion has been awarded ten consecutive, four-star ratings by Charity Navigator, America’s largest charity evaluator.
