Help Babies in Ethiopia

Sponsor a child in need through Compassion's Christian child sponsorship ministry.

Sadamo Genet CSP (ETHIOPIA) - ETC15
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

This Child Survival Program is a ministry of Sadamo Guenet Church in cooperation with Compassion.

Trained Christian staff members from the church reach out to mothers and their young children through regular home visits and counseling, and help them access needed medical care.

CSP participants regularly receive cooking oil, macaroni and flour. The center provides hygiene supplies, including soap and shampoo, as well as vitamins and other nutrients for mothers and their children. Children and their caregivers receive timely immunizations and checkups.

Pregnant mothers receive regular prenatal care. In a community where many mothers cannot afford medical care, the Child Survival Program ensures that each mother has access to a trained birth attendant or doctor during delivery of her baby.

Mothers enrolled in the program grow spiritually and socially through Bible studies and prayer meetings. Mothers are trained in holistic child care, including health, nutrition and hygiene. Many attend literacy classes and also learn vocational and income-generating skills.

Please remember to pray for these families - that the children will grow up healthy and that infant and maternal mortality will decline. Praise God for enlisting His people to help vulnerable mothers and babies.

This Child Survival Program is located on the plains of Sadamo, where about 5,000 people live. Typical houses have dirt floors, mud walls and corrugated tin roofs. The primary ethnic group is Oromo, and the most commonly spoken language is Oromifa. The regional diet normally consists of teff, or grain.

Services this center provides:

  • Educational lessons
  • Job skills training
  • Spiritual training
  • Medical Care

When you support the Children Survival Program, your charity donation helps Compassion's local partners reduce infant and child mortality by:

  • Preventing illness. Regular prenatal and postnatal checkups contribute greatly to healthy births. And regular doctor visits and immunizations keep infants and toddlers healthy and happy.
  • Giving children a healthy start. Nutritious food staples and supplements help children grow and stay strong.
  • Providing training. Mother and caregiver training means children receive mental and physical stimulation activities to improve and develop motor skills, social-emotional skills and cognitive development.
  • Empowering mothers and caregivers. Infant development and safety, nutrition, literacy and job training skills are just a few topics included in the Child Survival Program training.
  • Offering spiritual nurturing. Mothers establish relationships with Christian Survival Specialists through regular home visits. They also build relationships and a community of faith with other women through local group meetings.
  • Including family training. When possible, fathers and other family members living in the home are included in training to help build a stable, secure environment for the child.
