Baan Huey Nam Kao Church Child Survival Program (THAILAND)
South of Chiang Mai, Thailand

South of Chiang Mai, young mothers living in poverty are struggling to provide lifesaving care to their newborn babies.

In the most vulnerable years of a child’s life, poverty is hindering progress, growth and health. These babies are not given the opportunity to survive and thrive.

This is where the Child Survival Program (CSP) steps in.

Mothers who join this CSP are provided with:

  • Health check-ups
  • Training on food planning and preparing nutritious meals
  • Food and milk
  • Necessary supplies for the care of their baby

These mothers also learn about Jesus and they receive a Bible.

Important income generating skills are also taught which is critical for mothers who need to work to support their family.

When you support this center you are not just sustaining the life of an infant, you are providing a chance for mothers and babies to thrive.

Meet Arunee and Rinlada

Arunee and her husband live in a one-room house with their 20-month-old daughter Rinlada. Arunee’s husband works as a laborer but his employment has been unstable.

Arunee struggled to take care of her baby and she was filled with anxiety and fear. Then she joined the local Child Survival Program (CSP). The support and provision she received was life changing. The darkness of poverty was exchanged for hope.

When Arunee was asked what her greatest lesson has been since joining the CSP she replied, “I feel that I am important to my child. I am thankful that God trusts in me and my child is the precious gift that God has given.”

Services this center provides:

  • Regular home visits
  • Group Training
  • Pre and post natal care
  • Nutritious foods
  • Bible Studies
  • Childcare lessons
  • Job Skills training

When you support the Child Survival Program, your charity donation helps Compassion’s local partners reduce infant and child mortality by:

  • Preventing illness. Regular prenatal and postnatal checkups contribute greatly to healthy births. And regular doctor visits and immunizations keep infants and toddlers healthy and happy.
  • Giving children a healthy start. Nutritious food staples and supplements help children grow and stay strong.
  • Providing training. Mother and caregiver training means children receive mental and physical stimulation activities to improve and develop motor skills, social-emotional skills and cognitive development.
  • Empowering mothers and caregivers. Infant development and safety, nutrition, literacy and job training skills are just a few of the topics the Child Survival Program training includes.
  • Offering spiritual nurturing. Mothers establish relationships with Christian Survival Specialists through regular home visits. They also build relationships and a community of faith with other women through local group meetings.
  • Including family training. When possible, fathers and other family members living in the home are included in training to help build a stable, secure environment for the child.
