Anglican Msalato Child Survival Program (Tanzania)
North of Dodoma, Tanzania

Life is hard in the small Tanzanian community of Msalato. Located in an arid, drought-prone region of the country, growing food is extremely difficult and young mothers struggle to provide even the most basic needs for their children.

Most women in this area are uneducated, unable to read or write, and are not employed.

Life in such a harsh environment has lead to infant mortality being a serious problem, and it is made worse by little access to adequate health care.

Out of every 1,000 children in Msalato, 130 will die before their fifth birthday, largely due to malnutrition and malaria. Hope runs thin in the midst of such poverty.

The Anglican Msalato Child Survival Program is a beautiful ray of hope for the families in this struggling community. The CSP provides mothers and their babies with life-changing benefits like:

  • supplemental food and clean water
  • health care and immunizations
  • toys and a safe place to play for the children
  • a Bible and spiritual instruction
  • education and literacy instruction for mothers
  • income-generation skills training
  • counseling and emotional support

When you give to the Anglican Msalato CSP, you offer children in Msalato a chance to survive and give mothers with little hope the opportunity to not only escape their physical poverty, but even more importantly, to know the God who loves them deeply.

Salome and her one-year-old son Derick share a three room home with her parents, brother and sister. Derick is an active child, who thanks to the care at the CSP, is growing developing well. He is often running or playing ball with other children and has recently started talking.

Through the CSP, Salome learned how to run a business and she now rents a small kiosk where she cooks and sells food to earn money for the family.

She is grateful for the huge difference the CSP has made in her life.

I give so much thanks to the ministry because it has made me strong in business through entrepreneurship seminars and enabled my child and I to meet our basic needs. We are also so blessed by the Bible teachings we get from our Pastor because they make us grow spiritually and we are encouraged to overcome temptations.
