On this tour, we will experience the diversity & full range of Compassion’s work in Thailand….from the hidden slums within Chiang Mai to a Karen tribal village to the Tak province in northern Thailand where Compassion is serving Burmese civil war refugees. We will also have a brief opportunity to cross the border into Myanmar to learn more about the history & culture of these amazing people.
This tour includes plenty of sightseeing & cultural activities, opportunities for hands on ministry to children, and will also bring you face to face for an amazing day with your sponsored child!

Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register immediately. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $380, we will confirm your place on the tour and you may then purchase your domestic air ticket. The final payment of $3,370 is due no later than 9/26/2013.

Price: The cost of this tour is $3,750 per person for double occupancy.
Included in our tour price are round-trip airfare between Los Angeles and Chiang Mail, Thailand, lodging, all meals, travel within Thailand, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.
Costs not included in the tour price are transportation to and from Los Angeles, passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.
Safety and Preparation: This tour will be moderate in difficulty because of impoverished conditions. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads, and long days. We will have a light work element in this tour.
Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.

Day 1-2: Starting Out We depart from Los Angeles on Korean Airlines flight #18 to Chiang Mai, Thailand! We will meet each other at the international terminal and board the plane with expectation and excitement. Once we arrive we’ll meet our incredible country staff and proceed to the hotel to rest for the trip ahead!
Day 3: Connecting with Compassion & Children In the morning, we will worship together & share devotions at our Compassion Thailand office, followed by a time of fellowship with Compassion Thai staff & a tour of the country office. That afternoon, we will visit our first Compassion Child Development Center located in the slums of Chiang Mai and learn about the vital work of Compassion in releasing these children from poverty in Jesus’ name!
Day 4: Experiencing Thai Culture Today is a day of learning about and experiencing Thai culture! Have you ever ridden an Elephant or taken a zip line through the jungle? How about a visit to a silk factory or a Thai cooking class? This will be a fun day of discovery, laughter and enjoying the beauty of Thailand.
In the evening we will share dinner with students from Compassion’s Leadership Development program and hear testimonies about how this program is shaping these incredible young men and women into strong & capable leaders of the future!
Day 5: Visiting a Karen Tribe Today we visit another student center in a Karen tribal community. While at this center, we will see Compassion’s Complementary Interventions program in action through a Christian youth leadership development project.
Day 6: Child Fun Day! Today you'll spend a very special day filled with laughter, hugs, and fun with the incredible child you sponsor. We have a special day planned that you and your sponsored child will never forget. This is what you've waited for! So, treasure every moment and be prepared for God to move your heart in ways you never anticipated.
Day 7-9: Travel to the Thai/Myanmar border We begin our trek towards the Tak province near the Northern Thai border. Along the way, we will stop at another Compassion Child Development Center to spend time learning about Compassion’s Child Survival Program. We will discover how this program is providing vital support & assistance to mothers and babies.
While near the border, we will also spend a day at a project that serves refugees from Myanmar (Burma) and provides educational opportunities for children who are unable to go to local Thai schools. We will also learn how Compassion is reaching out through the local church to Burmese communities across the river in Myanmar.
On Sunday, we will worship together with another church partner and visit a refugee camp and Bible seminary.
Day 10: Border Crossing! Today is a sightseeing/educational day, where we will cross the border to visit the town of Myawaddy in Mayanmar. A local tour guide will take us to visit several temples & market places as we learn more about Burmese history & lifestyle.
Day 11-12: Return to Chiang Mai/Depart for Home We will return to Chiang Mai for a final dinner & debrief with time to pack and prepare for our journey home. We arrive into Los Angeles at 9:05am on the 29th and say goodbye to our newfound family. What an incredible experience we’ve shared!
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.

Compassion uses a third party vendor, Protect My Ministry to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.

AIR TRANSPORTATION and FUEL SURCHARGES
Air transportation as included in the tour is based on economy-class transportation and is subject to all rules and regulations governing these fares. Fuel surcharges are added on a per-ticket basis at time of confirmation. In the event these surcharges are increasingly higher than budget estimates, we may require additional funds to cover these surcharges. We will communicate any pricing changes immediately.

One hundred percent of the tour cost will be required for cancellations 30-0 days prior to the sponsor tour.

RESPONSIBILITY: COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL makes arrangements with airlines, hotels and other independent parties to provide you with the travel services you purchase. These parties are independent suppliers over whom we have no direct control. In the absence of negligence on our part, we are not responsible for any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses arising out of injury, accident or death; damage, loss or delay of baggage or other property; or delay, inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, upset, disappointment, distress or frustration, whether physical or mental, resulting from (1) the act or omission of any party other than COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL or its employees; (2) mechanical breakdown, government actions, weather or other factors beyond our control; (3) failure to obtain documents, passports, visas and health certificates valid through the date of reentry, when required, in which case a cancellation charge will be assessed; (4) failure to follow instructions including but not limited to check-in and checkout times and baggage handling; (5) cancellation or change for any reason in the travel services offered; and (6) medical or health problems or physical disabilities. COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL reserves the right to cancel or alter the travel services at its discretion, except as otherwise noted herein. In the event of change, COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL will try to substitute comparable services; in the event of complete cancellation by COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL, we shall refund all monies paid to us. COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL will not be responsible for any other cost incurred by participants.
