The rewards are great as you see Compassion's ministry in action. The smiles and hugs of the children instantly take away the winter blahs. The mothers and caregivers in the Child Survival Program warm your heart as you see the difference being made in their lives as they learn literacy skills, income-generating activities, and the best way to care for their babies and toddlers. You'll stand amazed as you see how much our Implementing Church Partners are doing with sponsorship dollars as they change the lives of children through their child development centers. Then, of course, you'll experience the impact of the students in our Leadership Development Program as they study in the university and additionally learn servant leadership through their mentors and service to others. Graduates from our program will have opportunity to share with you about how they are being released from poverty in Jesus' name and making a difference in their country. But there is also the key part of this tour -- the very special, fun day you will spend with your sponsored child as Compassion-assisted children are brought from all over to join us. Oh, the memories and stories you can share when you return home as advocates for children. Yes, your partnership with Compassion does work and makes a difference. You've just witnessed it in action. I trust you will prayerfully consider joining our January 2012 sponsor tour to the Philippines so your life can be changed -- so you can bless others as you are blessed.

Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register by June 23, 2011. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $380, we will confirm your place on the tour and you may then purchase your domestic air ticket. The final payment of $3,896.00 is due no later than October 12, 2011.

Please register now to complete the registration form online. If you'd rather register by mail, print the Registraton Form.

Price: The cost of this tour is $4,276.00 per person for double occupancy.

Included in our tour price are round-trip airfare between Los Angeles LAX and Manila, Philippines, lodging, all meals, travel within Philippines, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.

Costs not included in the tour price are transportation to and from Los Angeles, passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.

Safety and Preparation: This tour will be more difficult because of long flights, extreme time changes, impoverished conditions and a warm, humid climate. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads and long days.

Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.

Please read the Tour Conditions and General Information tab before finalizing your decision.

Days 1-4: We’re off!
Saturday – Tuesday, January 28 – 31: After our connections in the Los Angeles International Airport, we’re off on our Cathay Pacific Airways flight across the ocean. What happened to Sunday? It’s Monday and we finally land in Manila where we quickly clear immigration, collect our luggage, and transfer to our hotel. After orientation we head to our first center. It’s a Child Survival Program so the cutest babies and toddlers are there to win our hearts. But it’s their mothers and caregivers that really change our hearts as we hear their testimonies. Our time in the Compassion Philippines office the next day gives us a better understanding of the work and a confidence that the program is in good hands. Now it’s time to board the bus and travel to Pampanga – our home area for the next few days.

Days 5-8: Getting Involved and Reflecting
Wednesday – Saturday, February 1 – 4:  Center staff and church pastor are eager to welcome us to their center here in Angeles. As they show us through their office we realize all the details involved and how closely they know and monitor their children and families. After lunch with them we walk through the community before arriving at the homes of some of the center children. How gracious the families are! We don’t want to miss the natural beauty that God gave us so a visit to Mt. Pinatubo also allows us time to process and reflect. Arriving at another center on Friday we meet some of the families involved. Before we know it we’re off to experience a Day in the Life of a Compassion Family. Saturday we’re busy as all the children arrive for center day. We join their classroom activities and then share some of our crafts and sports with them. Maybe we can even find time for a small party together. We conclude that night at a dinner with a few Leadership Development Students. These are our fruits and give us so much hope for all the other small children.

Day 9: Worship and Travel
Sunday, February 5: It’s praise and worship Filipino style! Oh what a blessing. The pastor’s message moves us closer to God as we realize how good it is to partner with the local evangelical church. Saying good-bye we’re back on the road to Manila. Don’t worry there’s time for lunch along the way. Checking back into our hotel we’re reunited with our stored luggage and off to our rooms. Tonight over dinner we’ll debrief our experiences and get ready for our sponsored children.

Day 10: Sponsor Fun Day
Monday, February 6: We can hardly believe that it’s finally our big day. Sponsored children have traveled in and are just as anxious as we are. It’s a day of group time and family time. A day of activities and quiet time to share.  A day of smiles and hugs. A day of laughter and then tears with the good-bye. A day that makes our relationship real. After praying together we’ll snap a group picture and then the final hugs and photos. Lots of memories to share over our farewell dinner tonight.

Day 11: Taking it Home
Tuesday, February 7: It doesn’t seem possible that our tour is coming to an end. Where have the days gone? But we do know that these days have changed us and we’ll never forget our time together in the Philippines. Leaving Manila at noon we arrive back in Los Angeles at noon so we have plenty of time to clear immigration, customs, and connect home. May we live the rest of our lives as advocates for children!
