I know after reading all those letters and updates you are so anxious to personally meet and interact with your child. What an amazing experience! But there is so much more for you during those days in the Philippines. All 3 of Compassion’s core programs operate there so you will get a broad understanding of this ministry you partner with. Seeing moms and babies in the child survival program, then interacting with children in the development centers, and culminating with the university students in leadership development gives you that thorough overview. You’ll also learn more about complementary intervention funds as you see one of the ways they’re used. Another great part of our sponsor tours is the way you can get to know the child development center staff as well as pastors at several of our implementing church partners. They have a heart and vision for their children and families but work daily in such difficult situations. You have an opportunity to come along side and share their calling as you encourage them and pray for them. When you promise to continue to pray for them is just that boost they need. What a blessing that will be! During our travels and time there your view of the Philippines will broaden and future media will have a very different impact. You’ve been, you’ve seen, and you’re changed. It will be an eye-opening time as you experience the natural beauty and see the incredible financial and commerce districts. But then there is the extreme poverty that we’re working in. Yes, it’s all part of your Philippines experience and part of what you’ll take home to share.
As you reread this invitation please pray about your involvement in the tour. It will not only change your sponsorship experience but will enhance your view of His global church. You’ll come home eager to share your stories and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Don’t wait too long.

Days 1 and 2: Ready to Go
Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20: We’ve all made our connecting flights to Los Angeles International Airport and are ready to go. Very early Saturday morning our Cathay Pacific Airways flight takes off over the Pacific. Arriving in Hong Kong Sunday morning we have time for a snack or to relax at the gate with our new friends. Then it’s time for the short flight to Manila. Arriving about noon we make our way to the hotel. Before dinner we have a welcome and orientation.
Days 3 - 6: First Impressions and More
Monday - Thursday, April 21-24: As we visit our church partners and student centers we learn about Compassion’s core ministries. We start with the child survival program. Those babies and toddlers are the cutest but it’s their mothers that impress us. Their testimony of the changes the dedicated staff is making in their lives is amazing. Their babies are getting the right start in life. Next our child development center shows us how closely each individual child is monitored and encouraged. The steps involved in accomplishing their goals are impressive. When nearby families open their homes and welcome us in we get a much better idea of daily life here. Yes, the Filipinos are a very warm people. Then to see our university students learning discipleship as well through the leadership development program shows us the conclusion. Lastly a center at one of the churches gives us an example of applying complementary intervention funds in a proactive supporting way. Yes, this all works and children are being released from poverty in Jesus’ name.
Day 7: Our Special Day
Friday, April 25: It’s our big day! The day we meet our sponsored children and we make them kings and queens for a day. How can we even describe our feelings as we share the day together doing a variety of different things? Maybe we’re just sitting and coloring or chatting to know each other better. No matter what we do it’s unbelievable. After lunch together we share our gifts and pray as family units. With all our individual photos we still want a group photo of our big Filipino family. Then it’s time to hug good-bye and realize that words cannot describe our unbelievable day.
Days 8-10: Drawing It To a Close
Saturday - Monday, April 26-28: Visiting our last child development center we try to get as much into our day as we can. One can never have enough hugs. Interesting that we find we’re still learning about everything involved in child development through sponsorship. Sunday is the Lord’s Day and we can praise and worship with our Filipino brothers and sisters. It’s the same Lord and the same gospel but new friends and family to share it with. God is so awesome! Then we draw it to a conclusion by visiting the Compassion Philippines country office. As we share what these days have meant to us we are encouraging and blessing the dedicated staff that oversees the work. Our farewell dinner tonight includes a time of preparing to take our experiences home. How will we communicate everything we saw and did?
Day 11: Going Home
Tuesday, April 29: This morning finds us boarding our bus for the last time as we drive to the airport. Our Cathay Pacific flight takes us to Hong Kong with time to shop for any additional souvenirs or snack before boarding the long flight across the Pacific. Arriving in Los Angeles early this afternoon we say our last good-byes and continue on home. We are definitely changed and ready to advocate for children. Trust our families and friends are ready for our enthusiasm! We are so thankful to be a part of God’s plan.
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.
