The holidays are over, the hectic pace is finally slowing down, the in-laws have headed home and you ask yourself, now what? You sit down to write your Nicaraguan Compassion child a letter, including some photos of the family from the holiday gatherings. You begin to imagine what the holidays were like for them; you wonder if they are excited to get your letters, and if you are truly making a difference in their life.
Now is just the time to get those questions answered! Compassion is offering a tour to Nicaragua in the middle of May.
Our sponsor tours are packed with experiences that will change your life. Nicaragua is a historically rich country, filled with the friendliest and most beautiful people. Join them in their work in the evangelical churches who are partner with Compassion. You will get an introduction to all of Compassion’s core programs and come away with the complete overview of our work in Nicaragua.
You may not be the sponsor of any of the children at the development centers we visit, but when you see how excited they get from your visit; you will begin to understand the importance of our partnership with the local church. You are an incredible part of that partnership! As we visit homes, you will see how treasured and important your letters are to these children. You will gain a deeper understanding of these children’s daily lives are like.
The highlight of your trip will be the day you get to spend with your sponsored child, sharing laughter and tears. What an amazing experience.
While you can go and visit on your own, there is nothing like joining a group with the same heart and experiencing it together. This is the investment of a lifetime.
Please read the itinerary, take another look at your child’s photo, reread the last letter you received and prayerfully consider coming to visit them. I hope we meet and travel to Nicaragua together this Spring.

Thursday, May 14: Travel to Nicaragua
Our journey begins, as we meet up in Miami to depart for Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. Upon arrival, we meet the awesome staff hosting us. We travel to our hotel, check in, and meet for a brief orientation to help us get acquainted with one another and our new surroundings.
Friday, May 15: Getting to Know Compassion Nicaragua
With our hearts stirred to put our faith into action, we visit a Child Development Center in Managua and see how poverty impacts the children and their families. Witness how the incredible staff works with these children to implement the ministry of Compassion. Then we get the opportunity to minister to these children through various activities and provide memories to last a lifetime!
Saturday, May 16: More Learning and Some Souvenir Shopping
We visit another Child Development Center, receiving hugs and kisses from the beautiful children, and learn about Compassion’s Complementary Interventions Program. Through attending a workshop and touring the facilities, we learn how this particular project reaches out to the local community. We finish our day visiting a local craft market and purchasing souvenirs for our loved ones back home.
Sunday, May 17: Expand Your Heart
We begin our Sunday morning by joining our brothers and sisters, at one of Compassion’s partner churches, with worship – Nicaraguan style. After a lively service, we spend time with the children and the people of the community and learn more about this beautiful country and culture.
Monday, May 18: Connecting With the Child You are Releasing From Poverty
The day you have been waiting for has finally arrived! Today the child you sponsor will be brought to you. Spend the entire day blessing, encouraging and playing with them. You and your child will be accompanied by your own personal translator, so language is not a barrier. This is a day you won’t soon forget!
Tuesday, May 19: We Return to Miami for our Return Flights Home
After several days of immersing ourselves in the beauty and grandeur of this beautiful country, tasting a bit of the culture through our visits to the Compassion Child Development Centers, and investing in the lives of children, it is time to return to our lives back home. As we return, our outlook on poverty and our response to it flames into a life-long investment as champions, working together to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name!
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.
Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration. If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
