Our ministry journey begins in Mexico City, Mexico’s oldest and most historical of cities. The city impresses many visitors with its blend of cultures; from the indigenous, to Spanish and Afro-Cuban cultures. The cultures are best experienced in their music and food along with their historical buildings around the square. During our tour we will visit Compassion’s Child Development Centers just like the ones your sponsored children attend. We’ll see how Compassion is working through the local churches, and meet with the pastors and tutors who care so passionately about the children in their communities.

Later we will visit the beautiful state of Chiapas, Mexico. This region, while frequented by tourists for its culturally rich, gorgeous surroundings, is also desperately poor, which is why Compassion is working diligently to release the children of this area from poverty in Jesus’ name. During our time here we will enjoy both the beauty and time of deep ministry together.

Of course you’ll have an opportunity to visit the child you sponsor and throughout the other opportunities you’ll learn just what your sponsorship means to that child. You’ll understand why these opportunities are so critical to assure that the child you sponsor becomes fully who God has created him/her to be. Don’t be surprised if this trip has a lasting impact on how you see the world around you, it happens on every sponsor tour. When was the last time a vacation has a lasting impact? Take a few minutes to pray and ask the Lord if He wants you to be part of this ministry team. And when He says, “Yes,” don’t delay, register right away to reserve your spot on the team. There is a child and a team waiting to meet you and we won’t be the same without you!

Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register immediately. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $180, we will confirm your place on the tour and you may then purchase your domestic air ticket. The final payment of $2315.00 is due no later than 9/17/2013.

Please register now to complete the registration form online.

Price: The cost of this tour is $2495 per person for double occupancy.

Included in our tour price: The tour price includes: lodging, all meals, travel within Mexico, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.

Costs not included in the tour price are transportation to and from our gateway city of Houston, passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.

Safety and Preparation: This tour will be moderate in difficulty because of impoverished conditions. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads, and long days. We will have a light work element in this tour.

Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.

Please read the Tour Conditions and General Information tab before finalizing your decision.

Thursday, January 9
We start our adventure at the Houston Airport. As we get acquainted with each other, we’ll fly together to Mexico City for the first couple days of this tour. We’ll arrive into Mexico City in the evening and head straight to the hotel for a good night’s rest.

Friday, January 10
We’ll start our day with the wonderful Mexico staff at the local country office learning about Mexico City and Compassion’s work in this beautiful country. In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy some of the unique sights and sounds of Mexico City before returning to our hotel to prepare for the rest of our ministry time together.

Saturday, January 11
For those who have sponsored children living in the State of Mexico, you’ll get to meet your children today. Children will be brought to a safe, central location where you can enjoy the entire day interacting around the activities available and great conversation. For those who do not have a child in this area, the rest of us will visit a Compassion child development center in the Mexico City area. Here we’ll work together to share a vacation bible school-style ministry time with the children, which we’ll prepare together in advance of our trip. Tonight we’ll enjoy dinner together with time to share and reflect on the experiences of the day.

Sunday, January 12
This morning, we check-out of our hotel to make our way to the airport for our flight to Villahermosa, Tobasco in the State of Chiapas, one of the poorest states in all of Mexico. Upon arrival, we’ll drop our luggage off at the hotel where we will be staying, change into comfortable clothes and head out for a fun day of sight-seeing. We have in mind to visit cascades de aguas azul (blue waterfalls) where we hope to have a picnic, a time of devotions and worship as a team and time to relax and enjoy the beauty God has made. Later we’ll have time for shopping and a local artisan market where you can purchase gifts or souvenirs before we return to our hotel to clean-up and enjoy dinner together.

Monday, January 13
For those of you with a child in this region, today will be your day to meet your sponsored child and spend the entire day together while the rest of our team visits a Compassion child development center to minister to the children and staff at this student center through the vacation bible school activities we have planned in advance. Regardless of how you spend this day, today will create memories for a lifetime and is sure to be a day you’ll never forget! Tonight we’ll have dinner together with time to share highlights from the day and reflect on all we are learning as we experience each new day.

Tuesday, January 14
We have one final day together in this beautiful region of Mexico. Our visit today will begin with our team divided into family groups. Each group will visit the family of a child attending a Compassion child development center for an experience called “A Day in the Life of a Sponsored Child.” With a translator and representative from the student center we’ll accompany a Compassion child and his/her family through their morning routine (chores, gathering water or whatever they do on a normal basis). The purpose of this experience is to give the family a chance to share more of their reality with us while at the same time offering natural conversation and friendship. It is sure to be a highlight. Then, after lunch, we’ll all join together to provide vacation bible school activities for children at this student center. Later tonight we have our final and family time to share and reflect on our experiences this past week.

Wednesday, January 15
With many memories in our hearts, we say goodbye to Mexico. This morning we prepare to fly home and make our connecting flights back to our family and friends. We arrive back into the United State before noon so you can easily make return flights home today.

BACKGROUND CHECK

In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.  Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration.  If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return.  Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks.  The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.

RESERVATIONS should be made well in advance and require a nonrefundable deposit of $180.00 per person. Final Payment of $2315.00 is due no later than 9/17/2013.

AIR TRANSPORTATION and FUEL SURCHARGES

Air transportation as included in the tour is based on economy-class transportation and is subject to all rules and regulations governing these fares. Fuel surcharges are added on a per-ticket basis at time of confirmation. In the event these surcharges are increasingly higher than budget estimates, we may require additional funds to cover these surcharges.

Airlines will frequently have flight changes that may interfere with your international connection from your domestic flight. Please understand that we are not responsible for any costs associated with airline changes as they are outside of our control. For this reason, we recommend allowing at least four hours between arrival time at the gateway city and the time the group flight departs the airport. We will communicate any pricing and itinerary changes immediately.
