Early in January you have an opportunity for a tremendous vacation -- one with a special purpose. This sponsor tour to Kenya offers a couple days in the capital, Nairobi, before heading west to Narok. This area on the edge of the Rift Valley offers a complete change from the big urban area. During our time together in Kenya we will visit a Maasai village, urban settings as well as more rural settings in the Kenya countryside. I know you will also want to experience each of Compassion’s core programs, so that will be included as well. You can be sure that whether we are spending time with sweet babies and sharing with their moms or caregivers (through the Child Survival Program), interacting with the bright, beautiful children in our child sponsorship program or sitting back in amazement as we meet emerging young leaders in the Leadership Development Program now poised to be the very leaders who will change their country, Kenya is a place you will never forget and you will be eager to return to again and again. But if that’s not enough there’s even more adventure packed into this tour – two added blessings. There’s a full day with your sponsored child and a full day in the Masai Mara Game Park. God gave us an amazing world and we get to enjoy and learn about another part of it.
I imagine, by now, you are strongly considering this Kenya tour and perhaps you are almost ready to register. Yet you may wonder, “What does God really have in store for me?” I can assure you, He has something special planned and He is eager to show you what He is up to! There is a definite reason you are meant to be on this tour, and only you and He will know. So please prayerfully consider this invitation and then don’t delay your registration. Our Kenya tours fill up quickly and we don’t want you to miss out. You, your child, and those you meet along the way will be so thankful you came.
Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register immediately. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $380.00, we will confirm your place on the tour and you may then purchase your domestic air ticket. The final payment of $4095.00 is due no later than 9/26/2013.
Please register now to complete the registration form online.
Price: The cost of this tour is $4,475.00 per person for double occupancy.
Included in our tour price are round-trip airfare between New York JFK and Nairobi, Kenya, lodging, all meals, travel within Kenya, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.
Costs not included in the tour price are transportation to and from New York, passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.
Safety and Preparation: This tour will be a little more difficult because of long international flights, time change, and impoverished conditions. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads, and long days. We will have a light work element in this tour.
Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.
Please read the Tour Conditions and General Information document before finalizing your decision.
Days 1-2: Getting to Kenya
Saturday and Sunday, January 18-19: It’s off to Kenya on KLM! Late Saturday afternoon departure from New York City JFK gives us plenty of time to anticipate our adventure. We can’t imagine all the things waiting for us but first we have to get some sleep before our layover in Amsterdam Sunday morning. Finally we’re headed south to Africa. Our evening arrival in Nairobi leaves us just enough time to check into our hotel and get settled for the night.
Days 3-4: It’s Nairobi
Monday and Tuesday, January 20-21: After our briefing for the tour we’re on our way to the first glimpse of Compassion’s work with the local church. The staff shares how the child development center operates and what they’re doing in the neighboring community. More excitement awaits us the next day as we see another child development center and learn about Complementary Interventions. These special funds certainly make an added difference. Then we’re off to the edge of the Rift Valley and our new home in Narok.
Days 5-8: The Rift Valley Area
Wednesday-Saturday, January 22-25: Our first visit here is with the Maasai. After meeting the pastor and staff we enjoy a presentation from the children. Next we’re off to the unique experience of a Maasai home where we assist with some practical work they have. The Maasai culture is so fascinating and we are totally captured by their openness to share with us. The next day we arrive at another center where we find the mothers can hardly contain themselves with the excitement of our visit. Their testimonies are so compelling as we learn about the difference this Child Survival Program makes in their lives. It’s more than just rescuing the babies. A couple mothers open their homes to us for a first-hand look at this home-based program. Due to strict school policies the child development centers run their day-long Compassion activities on Saturday. What fun to actually see all that’s involved in helping children become fulfilled Christian adults and to have a couple hundred students there with us. We can serve them lunch before eating the delicious meal ourselves and then we travel back to Nairobi for the rest of our time. Don’t worry because we do have a day of awesome adventure as we visit the Masai Mara Game Park. There is time for morning and afternoon safari rides and we cannot believe all that God has given us to enjoy. Cameras and tour members need recharging and lunch in the park is a perfect time for both.
Days 9-10: Main Highlight
Sunday and Monday, January 26-27: Kenyans know how to praise and worship the Lord and we’re right in the middle of that. We have so much to be thankful for and sharing this special time together at a partner church is one of them. We’re continuing to see why we joined this tour. We are receiving more than we’re giving! We need gifts and souvenirs for home so it’s shopping this afternoon. Make certain you remember that delicious coffee and tea for friends and family. During dinner we hear from university students in our Leadership Development Program and cannot believe the difference in their lives. We are amazed! Yes, we see for ourselves that Compassion child sponsorship does work. How can it get any better than this? But it does. One more event and it’s the real highlight. Our last day in country is spent with our sponsored child. What an incredible fun day is planned with activities and family time. Lots of energy and quiet visits. All of it with many photos and much love. These memories will last a life-time! Family prayer time and group photo close out our day. We wave good-bye through our tears but the smiles are even bigger. Thank goodness for a long plane ride to help us process this. Bags packed and in the lobby and then it’s load the buses for the last time. Off to the airport and our late night KLM flight home.
Day 11: What Next?
Tuesday, January 28: After a long layover in Amsterdam we finally make it across the Atlantic and into JFK Airport. We’re back in the USA but much different people than when we left. Kenya, our time together, seeing our partnership with Compassion first-hand, hugging our child, and being amazed at our awesome God has definitely changed us. We’re truly advocates for children and are ready to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Whether connecting or staying on we’re ready to share our story.
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.
Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration. If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
RESERVATIONS should be made well in advance and require a nonrefundable deposit of $380.00 per person. Final Payment of $4095.00 is due no later than 9/26/2013.
