While it is certain that the earthquake in January 2010 dealt the country of Haiti a powerful blow, it is equally true that the work of Compassion has continued in the lives of children throughout the country almost without interruption. Certainly there have been many church partners in the immediate area of the earthquake in Port Au-Prince that were severely impacted and there certainly was disruption to this area.

We will be the first group to return singing the praises of the heroic men and women who have remained inspired by their Lord to serve the children in this country through our partnership with the local churches whom God has established here. You will have the opportunity to see the destruction and reconstruction efforts in the capital city of Port Au-Prince but the focus of this trip is on other parts of the country where the work of Compassion is alive and well.

In our short time in this country you will experience the Child Development Program, the Child Survival Program, the Leadership Development Program and even see how Complementary Intervention funds are being invested throughout the country. Plus, you will still have the incredible opportunity to meet the child you sponsor, to hold him/her in your arms and to play with them. All those questions you have had and prayers you have prayed can be spoken face to face as you spend the day together in a fun atmosphere.

I am confident that this trip will be a life shaping experience for all involved, but you can be assured you will miss it if you don’t act quickly because space is very limited.

This trip is offered at a 20% discount for Compassion Advocates.  Discount spaces are very limited, and are on a first come, first serve basis.

Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register as soon as possible. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $180.00, we will confirm your place on the tour and you may then purchase your domestic air ticket. The final payment of $2370.00 is due no later than 11/16/2011.

Price: The cost of this tour is $2550.00 per person for double occupancy.

Included in our tour price are round-trip airfare between Miami and Port Au-Prince, Haiti, lodging, all meals, travel within Haiti, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.

Costs not included in the tour price are transportation to and from Miami, passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.

Safety and Preparation: This tour will be moderate in difficulty because of impoverished conditions. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads, and long days. We will have a light work element in this tour.

Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.

Day 1: Travel to Haiti and Orientation

We depart from Miami early in the morning this first day. Upon arrival we will check into our hotel and orient ourselves to the area and our staff hosting us during this trip. On this first day we will take the opportunity to meet the amazing staff who make your sponsorship possible here in Haiti.

Day 2 & 3: Getting to Know Compassion Haiti

Our next two full days will be dedicated to learning more about the people of Haiti, visiting their families, playing with the children at the development centers, and learning the love of Christ through the little children.

Day 4: Sponsor/Child Fun Day for those who sponsor a child they wish to visit

The day you have been waiting for have finally arrived. This day the child you sponsor will be brought to the area where we are staying and we’ll spend an entire day blessing, encouraging and playing with them. You and your child will be accompanied by your own personal translator, so language is not a barrier. This will be a day you won’t soon forget and that is likely to change you in ways you never expected.

Day 5 -7: Experience the Leadership Development & Complementary Interventions in Haiti

These days will be dedicated to putting our hands to work as we help in a Complimentary Interventions project at a local Compassion Center. We’ll also take the opportunity to share a meal with some of the heroes of Haiti, the Leadership Development Students.

Day 8: We return to Miami for our return flights home

This morning we say good bye to the country of Haiti to return home with our hearts full of love for the people and wonderful memories to share back home.

In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.  Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration.  If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return.  Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks.  The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.

RESERVATIONS should be made well in advance and require a nonrefundable deposit of $180.00 per person. Final Payment of $2370.00 is due no later than 11/16/2011. 

Air transportation as included in the tour is based on economy-class transportation and is subject to all rules and regulations governing these fares. Fuel surcharges are added on a per-ticket basis at time of confirmation. In the event these surcharges are increasingly higher than budget estimates, we may require additional funds to cover these surcharges. We will communicate any pricing changes immediately.

In the event that you need to cancel your trip, please refer to our cancellation policy below:

All deposits are nonrefundable.
Fifty percent of the tour cost will be required for cancellations 59-31 days prior to the sponsor tour.
One hundred percent of the tour cost will be required for cancellations 30-0 days prior to the sponsor tour. Only written cancellations accepted.        

IMPORTANT NOTICE: COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL reserves the right to adjust or alter any travel program when necessary or desirable for the protection, safety or improvement of said travel program, or when local conditions do not permit operation as published. COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL reserves the right to accept or deny participants application at its sole discretion.
RESPONSIBILITY: COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL makes arrangements with airlines, hotels and other independent parties to provide you with the travel services you purchase. These parties are independent suppliers over whom we have no direct control. In the absence of negligence on our part, we are not responsible for any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses arising out of injury, accident or death; damage, loss or delay of baggage or other property; or delay, inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, upset, disappointment, distress or frustration, whether physical or mental, resulting from (1) the act or omission of any party other than COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL or its employees; (2) mechanical breakdown, government actions, weather or other factors beyond our control; (3) failure to obtain documents, passports, visas and health certificates valid through the date of reentry, when required, in which case a cancellation charge will be assessed; (4) failure to follow instructions including but not limited to check-in and checkout times and baggage handling; (5) cancellation or change for any reason in the travel services offered; and (6) medical or health problems or physical disabilities. COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL reserves the right to cancel or alter the travel services at its discretion, except as otherwise noted herein. In the event of change, COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL will try to substitute comparable services; in the event of complete cancellation by COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL, we shall refund all monies paid to us. COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL will not be responsible for any other cost incurred by participants.
