Guatemala is one of the most unique countries you will ever visit. The terrain is varied, the climate is temperate but it is the people of Guatemala that make this country so special. On this tour you will meet believers from all over the country and with us God will perform a miracle. Strangers will come together to form a wonderfully, unified ministry team. This is not unprecedented though. Jesus loves to bring people together from varied backgrounds and life experience to join Him in ministry. It is a short length trip, but it will be rich on experience and impact.
On this tour, you’ll learn about Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program and the Leadership Development Program, not from a pamphlet but face to face. We’ll roll up our sleeves and serve alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ who serve the children of Guatemala with joy and excellence. Perhaps you have wondered what kinds of activities your sponsored child participates in when he/she attends the child development program, you’ll experience that too.
Often sponsors have told me, “I thought the Lord called me to Guatemala to be a blessing and to bring words of encouragement to the staff there, but instead they blessed me more than words can even express.”
Sure to be a highlight, of course, will be the time you get to spend with the child you sponsor. You’ll also meet a representative from his/her child development center who can fill you in on the unique aspects of your child’s community, their participation in the student center and challenges they face to equip you to pray and write even more effectively when you return. I can assure you, your sponsored child/children are eager to meet you and believe it or not, you are an answer to their most fervent prayers.
We’ll make all the arrangements and plan every detail… the only thing we are missing is you!

To make the most of this opportunity, we’ll meet up at our departure gate in Miami, Florida for a late afternoon/early evening flight to Guatemala City. This will give us plenty of time to travel and still have plenty of time to enjoy our first exposure to Guatemala. We’ll begin with an overview of the country and the ministry of Compassion as implemented in this unique culture and context.
Sunday, July 14
We’ll begin by experiencing authentic Guatemalan worship service as we visit a local Compassion church partner and experience a Sunday service with them. Later we’ll do some sight-seeing.
Monday, July 15 – Wednesday, July 17
Our ministry team will visit a variety of child development centers to learn how Compassion impacts the lives of children. Along the way we’ll have opportunities to provide vacation bible school type activities as a team, complete a needed service project in a local community and experience a typical day in the life of a Compassion child to better equip us with the knowledge and experience to appreciate the challenges they face.
