Whether you have been a sponsor for a short time or for many years, a sponsor tour is a great way to step outside your comfort zone and learn more about the child you sponsor through your ministry of Compassion. You may wonder if your money might be better spent by giving a monetary gift to your child, their family or some other worthwhile opportunity within this ministry. But, I can tell you that your sponsored child and the dedicated staff at the student center your child attends believe you are the greatest gift they could ever imagine and the opportunity to meet you in person is absolutely priceless.
On this tour, we’ll journey to some extremely remote areas of the country, learn about the grip poverty has had on the families and their children in this region of the country and discover how the ministry of Compassion is bringing renewed hope and opportunity for transformation in their lives. The communities we will be visiting have been working with Compassion for quite some time and have never had a group of sponsors visit them. So, when you arrive with plenty of love and encouragement to shower on them and with hearts prepared to roll up your sleeves and serve you cannot imagine how much that will mean to them.
Of course you will also have an opportunity to meet the child you sponsor. Your sponsored child will travel to Guatemala City (some for the very first time) and there we’ll meet for an entire day full of hugs, laughter, smiles and memories to last a lifetime. You’ll also meet a representative from your sponsored child’s student center who can share more specifically about their community and the specifics of programs, benefits and opportunities your child receives through your sponsorship.
When was the last time a vacation changed you? Perhaps you have felt the Lord stirring your heart to do something just a bit out of the norm. Jesus is looking for people just like you who will be His hands and feet to carry words of encouragement and practical acts of love through service to the beautiful country of Guatemala. Will you be those hands and feet? There are limited slots available on this ministry team, so don’t delay, register today!!
See you there!

Days 1-2 Arrival into Guatemala, Team Building and Orientation
We begin our adventure in Guatemala from Miami with a mid-afternoon direct flight to Guatemala City. Upon arrival we'll have time for orientation and some team building to prepare for the week ahead. Sunday, we set out for our long drive to the remote and deeply impoverished region of Ixil.
Days 3-5: Where Ministry and Service Meet
Over the next several days we'll experience realities of poverty the families in this area of the country face. We'll be welcomed into their homes to experience life as they do by helping the children and their families with their daily chores. We'll also have opportunities to roll up our sleeves and serve the church partners with light construction and painting classrooms. But we also will come prepared to love on the children as we serve together to teach Bible lessons, lead crafts, play games and worship with the beautiful children we meet. On our way back to Guatemala City, we'll visit a beautiful area called Chichicastenango for some sight-seeing and shopping for gifts and souvenirs.
Day 6: The Day We've Been Waiting for
Today is the Big Day – the reason we came all the way to Guatemala We spend a wonderful and fun day with our sponsored children…
Days 7: Our last full day in the country
Today we will wrap up our visit to Guatemala with some shopping a few other surprises. A more detailed itinerary to follow soon.
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.
Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration. If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
