One of Central America’s closest and most distinctive locations, El Salvador is a small country but contains spectacularly varied scenery. Majestic volcanoes, sandy beaches, coffee plantations and some of the region’s oldest, most historical Mayan ruins will delight you. As true as that is, it is the beauty of the faces of the country’s children that will capture your heart.
Have you wondered how your monthly sponsorship really impacts a child and if that impact is sustainable over time? Do you wonder if the letters you write hold meaning to the child pictured in the photo on your refrigerator? A sponsor tour to El Salvador will show you first-hand the importance you bring to the life of a child. Nothing can prepare you for that moment when you lock eyes and arms with the child you sponsor for the very first time. In that moment you will say, it was worth every penny and every mile journeyed. This is truly a life changing experience!
Our adventure will take us to see several different child development centers in the area of San Salvador, the country’s beautiful capital city. We’ll venture deeper into the heart of the community, the home, where you will experience the richest expression of this culture. As a team, we will engage the children, enjoy a beachside getaway, and connect with all that God has waiting for us. See you there!

Day 1: Our Adventure Begins
Friday, June 6: This journey begins with a brief orientation to help us get to know each other and prepare ourselves for this unique experience. We arrive in San Salvador in the evening to get a good night of rest and prepare for the life-changing week ahead.
Day 2-4: Expand Your Horizons
Saturday, June 7 – Monday, June 9: Over the next few days we will participate in hands-on interactive elements that benefit the children and project staff who serve them day-to-day. We will engage the children in outdoor activities, games, fun and learning. You’ll also see one of Compassion’s fastest growing programs, the Leadership Development Program, and meet current university students who are fulfilling God’s call on their lives. We’ll also have the benefit of worshiping with our brothers and sisters in Christ as we visit a local Church partner for Sunday service.
Days 5: Lending a Hand
Tuesday, June 10: Today we will have the opportunity to serve the local church by accomplishing some hands-on tasks around the center. Today will be all about sweat equity and building into the success of the program the center is implementing in the lives of the children. We’ll get our hands dirty alongside the hardest working people we’ve met – the volunteers from the center itself. We’ll visit the local handy-craft market after a full day to do some shopping and sight-seeing.
Day 6: Sponsor Child Fun Day
Wednesday, June 11: Today is the day you have been waiting for, the day we meet the children we sponsor in El Salvador. It is sure to be a highlight as the Lord continues to knit your hearts together through the memories you make today.
Day 7: Preparing to Return Home
Thursday, June 12: After a week of immersing ourselves in the grandeur of this beautiful country, experiencing the diverse culture, and investing in the lives of children, we cannot help but be changed by our experiences. Returning home will stir many emotions and memories and inspire you to continue speaking up for children around the world.
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs. Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration. If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
RESERVATIONS should be made well in advance and require a nonrefundable deposit of $180.00 per person. The final payment of $2,035.00 is due no later than February 19, 2014.
