This Compassion sponsor tour will be very unique. It will be comprised of listeners from the WMHK broadcast area who together will visit one of the regions within Colombia that continues to be most significantly impacted by the realities of poverty. It is possible that the image you might have in your mind of the drugs and violence associated with this country may cause you to question this location but, Colombia has become a very safe, welcoming country through a deliberate focus to drive the drugs and violence out of this beautiful country.
Have you wondered who greets the child you sponsor when he/she arrives at the Compassion child development center? What is his community like? Does your sponsorship really make a difference in her life? Well, wonder no more! Join us on this sponsor tour to Colombia where these questions and many more will be answered. When you return from this adventure, you will certainly never look at this country or your ministry of Compassion the same way.
While you will certainly see some remarkable touristy sites, your adventure will be extremely unique. This trip is not designed as a typical tourist vacation. We’ll be serving together on various service projects, ministering to the children and youth and along the way learning more about God’s heart for the poor. As great as these experiences will be, nothing can compare with the day we’ve set aside for you to focus entirely on building your relationship with that child you sponsor in his/her local context.

Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register immediately. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $300.00, we will confirm your place on the tour. Typically, you would be responsible to find and pay for your own domestic travel arrangements; however, since this group will be traveling together to Colombia, we have included the domestic ticket in the cost of this trip. The final payment of $2200.00 is due no later than 4/15/2014.

Price: The cost of this tour is $2,500.00 per person for double occupancy.
Included in our tour price are round-trip airfare between Charlotte, North Carolina and Cartagena, Colombia, lodging, all meals, travel within Colombia, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.
Costs not included in the tour price are passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.
Safety and Preparation: This tour will be moderate in difficulty because of impoverished conditions. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads, and long days. We will have a light work element in this tour.
Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.

Thursday, June 19: Travel to Colombia
We depart from Charlotte, North Carolina early in the morning this first day. After changing planes in Miami and completing our journey to Colombia, we will check into our hotel and orient ourselves to the area and our staff hosting us during this trip.
Friday, June 20: Expand Your Heart
Our first full day in Barranquilla will take us to visit a well-established child development center where we will meet the incredible staff and take a brief tour of the classrooms and administrative office. Next, we’ll divide into teams to meet the families of some of the children registered at this student center. We’ll hear directly from them how the lives of their children are being impacted through the opportunities they receive at this center. After lunch, we will have time to share the vacation bible school activities we have prepared in advance.
Saturday, June 21st: Sponsor/Child Fun Day
Today we’ll travel to St. Andrews Child Development Center. One by one sponsors and children will be introduced to each other and to their translator who will assist in facilitating conversation. It is likely parents/extended family will be also be on hand to greet you. The children can then give you a tour of this center, including their classroom. A bit later, the sponsors and children will head off to a fun location where they can interact with each other and have fun.
Sunday, June 22: Wrapping up our time in Colombia
Today, we’ll return to St. Andrews to enjoy Sunday morning worship with our new friends there. After the service, we’ll have lunch with the pastor and his wife and the project director and his wife. Later we’ll do some sight-seeing and shopping before returning to the hotel to prepare for our trip home tomorrow.
Monday, June 23: Travel day back to the United States
We begin our travel day back home. By early afternoon we are back in the United States.
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.

If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
RESERVATIONS should be made well in advance and require a nonrefundable deposit of $300.00 per person. The final payment of $2200.00 is due no later than 4/15/2014.
AIR TRANSPORTATION and FUEL SURCHARGES
Air transportation as included in the tour is based on economy-class transportation and is subject to all rules and regulations governing these fares. Fuel surcharges are added on a per-ticket basis at time of confirmation. In the event these surcharges are increasingly higher than budget estimates, we may require additional funds to cover these surcharges.
Airlines will frequently have flight changes that may interfere with your international connection from your domestic flight. Please understand that we are not responsible for any costs associated with airline changes as they are outside of our control. For this reason, we recommend allowing at least four hours between arrival time at the gateway city and the time the group flight departs the airport. We will communicate any pricing and itinerary changes immediately.

- All deposits are nonrefundable.
- Fifty percent of the tour cost will be required for cancellations 59-31 days prior to the sponsor tour.
- One hundred percent of the tour cost will be required for cancellations 30-0 days prior to the sponsor tour.
- Only written cancellations accepted.

RESPONSIBILITY: COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL makes arrangements with airlines, hotels and other independent parties to provide you with the travel services you purchase. In the absence of negligence on our part, we are not responsible for any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses arising out of injury, accident or death; damage, loss or delay of baggage or other property; or delay, inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, upset, disappointment, distress or frustration, whether physical or mental, resulting from (1) the act or omission of any party other than COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL or its employees; (2) mechanical breakdown, government actions, weather or other factors beyond our control; (3) failure to obtain documents, passports, visas and health certificates valid through the date of reentry, when required, in which case a cancellation charge will be assessed; (4) failure to follow instructions including but not limited to check-in and checkout times and baggage handling; (5) cancellation or change for any reason in the travel services offered; and (6) medical or health problems or physical disabilities. COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL reserves the right to cancel or alter the travel services at its discretion, except as otherwise noted herein. In the event of change, COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL will try to substitute comparable services; in the event of complete cancellation by COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL, we shall refund all monies paid to us. COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL will not be responsible for any other cost incurred by participants.
