For the first time we plan to travel south and spend a few days in Chittagong, where church partners and center workers are there to welcome us. This area is an area of focus for the Compassion Bangladesh management team. One way we're doing this is to strengthen the partnership with the local evangelical churches. You'll be so impressed as the staff at the child development centers share their vision with you, and you'll never forget the children you've hugged. Back in Dhaka, a day in the country office with our dedicated workers will show you firsthand how they administer the many details of our work. We end with a service project assisting with light work at one of our centers.
Please prayerfully consider joining us for this tour, which is so much more than "just a vacation." Your child is waiting!
Registration: Our trips fill up quickly on a first-come basis, so it is important to register by March 25, 2011. Once we have received your registration along with a deposit of $380.00, we will confirm your place on the tour and you may then purchase your domestic air ticket. The final payment of $3,440.00 is due no later than June 29, 2011.
Please register now to complete the registration form online. If you'd rather register by mail, print the Registraton Form.
Price: The cost of this tour is $3,820.00 per person for double occupancy.
Included in our tour price are round-trip airfare between JFK New York and Dhaka, Bangladesh, lodging, all meals, travel within Bangladesh, tips, your child's travel, guides and translators during the tour, admission fees, departure tax and administrative costs.
Costs not included in the tour price are transportation to and from JFK New York, passport and incidentals such as snacks, additional beverages, laundry, phone calls, film and other personal items. You may want to bring extra spending money for shopping at the local markets.
Safety and Preparation: This tour will be moderate in difficulty because of impoverished conditions. Also, there will be some walking, rides on bumpy roads, and long days. We will have a light work element in this tour.
Compassion constantly monitors the safety of our destination countries and will make any adjustments necessary to protect our tour participants, sponsored children and in-country staff. We believe it is important to provide safe, comfortable accommodations, traditional meals and reliable transportation so that your focus can be on what God is teaching you and the impact of the experience rather than concern for your personal safety and well-being.
Please read the Tour Conditions and General Information tab before finalizing your decision.
Days 1-3: We Made It to Bangladesh
Saturday - Monday, Oct. 15-17: Late Saturday evening our Qatar Airways flight takes off from New York City JFK with a brief layover in Doha, Qatar. Arriving in Dhaka very early Monday morning we immediately transfer to our hotel. Our first activity is to visit Compassion's Bangladesh office and meet the dedicated people who oversee our work there. We'll make a quick stop to shop for typical clothes for the remainder of our tour and then have orientation during dinner.
Day 4: Our First Big Day
Tuesday, Oct. 18: Sponsored children from the north as well as the Dhaka area will join us for a memorable day of activities, smiles, photos, hugs, and deeper relationship. Those of us with sponsored children in the south will visit a nearby child development center and hug the kids there. Oh, the things to share at dinner tonight!
Days 5-7: Time in Chittagong
Wednesday - Friday, Oct. 19-21: While here in the south, we find more excited children ready to welcome us to their child development center. One night we will have dinner with some pastors and learn about their vision for working with their children and communities, and the next day we spend time doing light service work at another center with Complementary Interventions. Don't worry, one day is special -- just for the sponsors with children from the south and these memories will last for a lifetime!
Days 8 and 9: Wrapping It Up in Dhaka
Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22–23: Returning to Dhaka we have the opportunity to get our last questions answered at another child development center. Shopping for those special souvenirs and gifts finishes our day. During our farewell dinner we'll share memories and see how we can "take this home" to our families and friends.
Day 10: Returning Home
Monday, Oct. 24: Very early this morning we board Qatar Airways for the flight back to the United States. After a layover in Doha, we arrive at JFK New York mid-afternoon. Although it's been a long day, we realize our time together in Bangladesh has had an impact on us. Whether we connect to our final destinations later or spend the night in New York we can't wait to share our experiences with family and friends. Yes, we're advocates for children!
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.
Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration. If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
