A child's trust is precious. The very young have no reason to doubt, and their trust is absolute. The phrase "wide-eyed wonder" was definitely coined with children in mind! Most children believe with abandon. That is a beautiful thing. But to see a child's trust broken — that is a tragedy.
Poverty does everything it can to steal the trust of millions of children across the world. Poverty feeds children lies. It tells them: You are not good enough. You are not strong enough. You deserve this. And with each lie, that wonderful sense of childlike trust is exploited and twisted.
But can I tell you how beautiful it is to see a child's trust restored and redeemed through Compassion! Every registered child learns the truth — that he or she is the beloved child of Christ. Compassion workers become safe, trusted individuals in a child's life. Sponsors speak words of truth and life over each sponsored child. And a child's trust, broken and scarred by poverty, is made whole again.
This month, will you pray for this spirit of trust in the children we serve? Pray that they will see the words of poverty as lies, and that they will be able to discern truth from the heavenly Father. Pray that their lives will be filled with people — Compassion's program workers, sponsors, family members — who will restore their trust.
Your prayers mean the world to more than 1.3 million children around the globe. Please trust in that. Your words are heard by the Father, and we can trust that He hears them and that He loves His children and has a perfect plan for their lives.
