Steve Oakley

Steve joined Compassion as General Counsel in October 2011 and is responsible for overseeing all of Compassion’s domestic and international legal affairs. He practiced in commercial litigation for the first six years of his career, before transitioning into commercial transactions for the remainder of his 12 years in private practice. Upon graduating from Moody Seminary, Steve resigned as a partner from Hinshaw & Culbertson in Chicago to serve as Vice President and General Counsel of the Moody Bible Institute. Steve has a Bachelor of Art from the University of Illinois in history, a Juris Doctorate from the John Marshall Law School and a Master of Ministry from the Moody Theological Seminary.

Stephen Oakley is Vice President of Legal Services and General Counsel. As General Counsel, Steve is responsible for overseeing all of Compassion's domestic and international legal affairs.

Born in Evanston, Illinois and a life-long native of Chicago, Steve has a bachelor's from the University of Illinois in history, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the John Marshall Law School, a Master of Ministry from Moody Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Business. Steve is admitted to practice law in Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Colorado.

Steve practiced in commercial litigation for the first half of his career, before transitioning into commercial transactions for the remainder of his years in private practice. Upon graduating from Moody Seminary, Steve resigned as a partner from Hinshaw & Culbertson in Chicago to serve as Vice President and General Counsel of Moody Bible Institute from 2009-11.

Steve and his wife Stephanie met at the Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago where Stephanie was on staff with the Willow Creek Association. They married in 2003 and welcomed their son, Kellan, in 2010.
