Internship Opportunities

Internship Schedule

Key Dates:

  • Applications will be available on the Compassion Recruitment Web page (click on "Browse Open Jobs") on Dec. 12, 2009.
  • Initial applicant screening begins Jan. 25, 2010.
  • Applicant final selection: March 15, 2010
  • Start date: May 24, 2010
  • End date: Aug. 5, 2010
  • Optional self-funded Vision Trip: Aug. 6-10, 2010

Interns will work Monday through Thursday, four days a week; Fridays will have an alternating schedule, including volunteering at local nonprofit organizations in Colorado Springs every other Friday. The alternating Fridays will consist of two options: either take an extra day off for a three-day weekend or work an extra day at the office based on work project demands.

In addition to the internship program, there will be an opportunity for an optional international trip to see Compassion work in the field. After the 10.5-week internship is completed, students will have a chance to see Compassion's work in the field on an optional five-day Vision Trip to the Dominican Republic. The purpose of this trip is for interns to see the "hands and feet" of the ministry as well as put a "face" to the name of poverty. This is a great opportunity to get a glimpse into how Compassion comes alongside the poorest of the poor, and to personally witness the impact Compassion's programs have on the lives of children. This trip will consist of visiting the child development center office, meeting the field staff, interacting with Compassion-sponsored children, and visiting the homes of sponsored children. Students will raise their own support for this trip independently as soon as they have been accepted into the program.  The estimated cost of the trip is $1,200; more details will be available in the future.

College credit will be available for interns, but students must individually take responsibility for the credit requirements and research how (on their own time) to attain credit for their college (writing papers, etc.), before the internship begins. Interns must complete the entire 10.5 weeks to graduate from the program. There will be no alteration to the time commitment for summer travel, etc. (exceptions include family emergency, health issues, etc.).  Students who cannot commit to the entire 10.5 weeks will not be considered for acceptance into the program.
