It has been more than eight months since Typhoon Haiyan swept through the Philippines, destroying lives and property on a massive scale. And as we enter a new storm season, Typhoon Rammasun is already bringing destruction to the still-rebuilding country.
Through the support of Compassion sponsors and donors, Compassion is committed to rebuilding and bringing hope even as we prepare for a new season of storms.
“When most relief agencies have already left, when most politicians have stopped giving aid because there's no media attention anymore, that's when we continue to provide because this is now the start of the recovery stage," says Noel Pabiona, Compassion Philippines Country Director.
Each year, thirteen of the countries where Compassion works are vulnerable to tropical storms — which can spawn typhoons, cyclones and hurricanes. Countries at risk as we enter a new tropical storm season include:
- the Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- the Philippines
- Sri Lanka
