Compassion International is an alliance member of 58:, an important intiative of nonprofit organizations that are mobilizing Christ’s followers to bring extreme poverty to an end — once and for all — in this generation.

Today, 1.4 billion people in the world live in extreme poverty, on less than $1.25 a day. That number seems an impossible obstacle to overcome.

Until you consider this:

Over the past two decades, the number of people living in extreme poverty was cut in half — from 52 percent to 26 percent.

Poverty is on its way out! Hope is taking its place as more and more people break the cycle of poverty and begin to build a positive, self-sufficient future for themselves and their children.

Extreme poverty can be ended. And it can happen in our lifetime. All it takes is believers in churches like yours coming together, making the cause of ending poverty their passion and “true fast” as described in Isaiah 58.

Two ways to involve your church

Your kit will arrive in time for the official release of 58: The Film, scheduled for the weekend of October 14-16.

Go to the 58: Initative’s website at live58.org, create a team and lead your church in choosing one of the Compassion “fasts” to support. Here’s how:

Create a Team — Bring your church family together to impact the world by choosing a fundraising goal for one of the featured projects.
Manage Your Goal — Each team will have one month to step out in faith to reach its fundraising goal. Should your team not be able to reach this goal, a Church Relations Manager will discuss the option of funding a smaller project.
Equip Your Supporters — Visit our Fundraiser Resource Center for materials to equip your team to reach its goals and help end extreme poverty in this generation.
