The San Cristobal volcano began to erupt on September 8, 2012, in the Chinandega area of Nicaragua.

Two Compassion-assisted childdevelopment centers, Elegidos de Jesus Student Center (NI-257) and Gedeones del Reino Student Center (NI-261), are located near the volcano but currently have not been evacuated. Their communities will be evacuated if volcanic activity continues. Currently, no Compassion-assisted families have been affected.

Please pray that the Lord will keep our beneficiaries and their families who live near the volcano safe. Please pray that eruptions from the volcano will not harm other communities.

Compassion Nicaragua will keep us updated as more information is available.
