Advisory: Teachers' Strike in Honduras

Advisory: Teachers' Strike in Honduras

  |   Posted: March 28, 2011

For the past week, teachers in Honduras have been protesting the national government over salary negotiations. Schools have been closed during this time.

One teacher was killed and other individuals have been injured during the violent demonstrations.

One Leadership Development Program (LDP) student was briefly hospitalized after tear gas was released near her. The student is reported to be feeling better.

Though this situation is not interrupting the normal operation of any Compassion-assisted centers, it is affecting a large number of sponsored children because of the school closures.

Many LDP students are being affected by the proximity of the violence to the national university.

Please pray for the demonstrations to peacefully end. Pray that all the children and students will soon be able to return to a calmer school environment.

Compassion Honduras will keep us updated as more information is available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
