Protests have been occurring in the northern region of Cajamarca, Peru, since the end of November. More than 1,000 people have demonstrated against the construction of a gold-mining project in this region.
Though the protests have not been violent, major roads and schools in the surrounding area have been closed.
The Compassion-assisted centers located in this region have continued regular project activities and no Compassion-assisted children have been affected.
Please pray that the protests in Cajamarca will be peacefully resolved. Please pray for the Lord’s continued protection of our children in this area.
Compassion Peru will keep us updated as more information is available.
Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
