Advisory: Mudslides in Bangladesh

Advisory: Mudslides in Bangladesh

  |   Posted: June 12, 2007

Mudslides prompted by heavy monsoon rains in southern Bangladesh have killed at least 84 people and injured more than 50 others. Most of the deaths and injuries happened in the port city of Chittagong - home to seven Compassion projects. While staff workers with Compassion Bangladesh say they have no reports that the injured or deceased are Compassion-assisted children or their family members, they are certain that some of the children's homes and at least three church projects have been affected by the flooding.

The affected projects are: Kalurghat Child Sponsorship Program (BD-501), Sagorika Child Sponsorship Program (BD-504) and Patiya Child Sponsorship Program (BD-505). These projects have temporarily shut down.

Compassion Bangladesh partnership facilitators along with church partner workers are visiting the families of Compassion-assisted children to assess the damage.

Please pray for the safety of our entire Compassion Bangladesh family that they may feel God's peace and security.

Compassion Bangladesh will provide an update as information becomes available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
