Hurricane Barbara hit Mexico’s southern Pacific coast on May 29, 2013. The hurricane brought heavy rains and rising waters to the areas of Oaxaca and Chiapas.

There are 35 Compassion centers located in the current path of the hurricane. So far, nine centers are reporting that 800 families are in distress, with 160 homes destroyed. These centers are: Vision 2000 Student Center (ME-801), Amiguitos Del Rey Student Center (ME-807), Ninos Joyas De Cristo Student Center (ME-811), Villa del Mar (ME-906), Ninos De Promesa Student Center (ME-928), Rancheria San Nicholas (ME-940), Amiguitos Del Rey Student Center (ME-946), Embajadores De Cristo Student Center (ME-959) and Rayitos De Luz Student Center (ME-993). Child lists are not available at this time. Compassion Mexico and the center staff have started providing initial response support such as initial medical attention, clean water, food and blankets to the affected families.

Compassion Mexico is carefully monitoring this situation and will provide more information as it becomes available.
