Heavy rains occurred in the southeastern area of Bangladesh on April 16, 2013.

Currently, 42 children from Hebron Child Sponsorship Program (BD-517) and Poli Mouja Child Sponsorship Program (BD-507) have been affected. One child’s sibling and mother died, and another sibling has been reported as injured. The center has provided medical assistance to this family. The homes of the other Compassion-assisted children were damaged by the rains and thunderstorms. In addition, an activity room at the Compassion center was damaged. During the thunderstorm, many children and staff members sought refuge in the church. No other injuries have been reported. The center has temporarily suspended program activities and communication has been very difficult in the area. Compassion center staff members have visited the affected families and are gathering more information. The facilities of Akshora Child Sponsorship Program (BD-326) have been partially damaged. The extent of the damages has not been confirmed.

Please pray for the protection and care of our affected families in Bangladesh. Please also pray for the Lord’s comfort and peace to the family who lost loved ones.

Compassion Bangladesh will keep us updated as more information is available.
