Advisory: Flooding in the Dominican Republic

Advisory: Flooding in the Dominican Republic

  |   Posted: February 10, 2009

More than a week of heavy rain has caused flooding in the northern part of the Dominican Republic. Over 12,000 people have been evacuated from flooded areas.

In addition, earlier this month the Licey River in Tamboril burst its banks and flooded the surrounding neighborhood.

One of Compassion's child development centers is located close to the river and has temporarily suspended regular center activities until the flooding subsides.

Many Compassion-assisted children live in homes near the river. Child development staff are visiting their families to assess the situation.

Please pray for God's protection and provision for the families affected by the flooding. Pray for wisdom and safety for the center staff as they visit the affected families.

Compassion DR will keep us updated as more information is available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
