Heavy rains caused flooding throughout Sri Lanka on October 28, 2012. The most devastated areas are the country’s western and southwestern provinces. Torrential rains also caused the Gin, Kalu, and Kelani rivers to overflow.
Currently, flooding has affected the families of nine children from the Inigodawela Child Development Center (LK-401) and the families of two children from the Inigodawela Child Survival Program (LKC14). The storm disrupted the lives of families whose children attend other Compassion-assisted centers, but specific information is not currently available. Center staff members are having difficulties traveling to some of the flooded areas. Compassion Sri Lanka will provide more information as it becomes available. The affected families have been provided with emergency food, clothing and other essential items.
Please pray for the families who have been affected by the flooding. Please pray that the floodwaters will recede.
Compassion Sri Lanka will keep us updated as more information is available.
