Advisory: Earthquake Hits Mexico - July 2014

UPDATE: July 30, 2014 - The walls of the classrooms and church at Amiguitos de Jesus Student Center (ME-949) were damaged during the earthquake. Program activities are continuing to be held in a nearby location. The church is receiving funds to repair the building.

No additional children have been reported as affected.

Compassion Mexico will provide updates as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: July 24, 2014 - The homes of six children from ME-949 Amiguitos de Jesus Student Center were damaged or destroyed, and the homes of four children from ME-932 Herederos del Reino Student Center were damaged. These families also lost personal belongings. One child and the mother of three children from ME-932 were injured and have received medical treatment.

Please pray for the communities who have been affected by the earthquake. Please pray for the Lord’s protection and care of our beneficiaries that are located in Chiapas.

July 10, 2014 - A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Mexico on July 7, 2014. The earthquake was also felt in Guatemala. Communities in the Chiapas area, including the city of Tapachula, have reported that some roads and houses were damaged. Mudslides have also occurred in areas.

Currently there is no information available about how our beneficiaries and church partners have been affected. Compassion Mexico will keep us updated as more information is available.
