Describe your family life: My family life is wonderful. My younger sister, Julianne Pereira, is taking an apprenticeship as an auxiliary teacher at a school in the neighborhood to help with the income of our family. She also participates in the Compassion child development center. My stepfather Antonio came to live with us two years ago. I consider him a father to me because he is always there to help me in difficult moments. I also have a cousin who is 11 years old called Vitoria. She has been living with us for one year. She previously lived with my grandma but grandma died in February. My father does not live with us but thank God, I never lost the contact with him. We always talk to each other. In the mornings, I leave with Juliana to work as a telemarketer. My stepfather Antonio has a small furniture store. We all go to work except for my mother who stays home with my cousin and takes care of the house. That is how my life works. I have God alone to thank for the life that He has given me.
Describe your childhood community environment: Initially, my childhood was quite sad because my parents did not understand each other and began to have arguments. The separation came and it was quite difficult, but soon after we overcame all the tribulation and things began to improve little by little. The community where I live is called Granja Portugal. It is a calm neighborhood. There are no gangs or drug users and thefts are very rare. It is a very good place to live. I have lived there for a long time and I know a lot of people. My church and child development center is very close by. All of this makes my community a good place to live.

How did you come to accept Christ as your personal Savior? I was going to church on Sunday regularly and God spoke to me and I became a Christian. I do not remember many details because I was still a child of only 8 years. About three years later at the child development center, there was an event called "House of Judgement" that marked my life in a big way. At the same time, I began atttending Batesda Igreja where I became strong. One year later, there were a separation of Betesda and Gileade and I stayed in Gileade because that was where my friends and pastor were attending. He is a wonderful pastor with whom I get along with well. By God's grace, everything is solved.
Describe your relationship with the Lord today. My relationship with God is good but I want it to get better. In the mornings before I leave to work, I pray for God to bless me and give me a day of achievements and victories. Sometimes during the day when I am a little afflicted, I get closer to God and tell everything to Him. That is what always lightens me. Sometimes I like to read the Bible and attend church on Sundays. Many times I arrive late from work because I do not have enough time to go, but whenever I have a break, I like to go because it is something that I love.
What impact did Compassion have on your personal and spiritual development? The child development center of Compassion had a great influence on my life. They helped me a lot personally. I always had a monitor whom I could tell my problems to and who was always at my side to help me. Spiritually, we studied the Bible and I was taught the right way to God.
How are you currently serving in your local church? I attend the Sunday school and participate in the youth group meetings.
What person has had the most influence on your life and why? God has always been in the center of everything for me. He also gave my mother the strength to always be at my side. For some years, she was my father and my mother. She always had this disposition to help in the moments of happiness as well in the moments of sadness. To this day, she is the person that has the most influence in my life.
How do you plan to use your degree to advance the Kingdom of God? I intend to be great physiotherapist for God. I will be honest to myself and to others and always do everything to please God.
What spiritual challenges do you think you will face during your university or LDP experience? I think that my largest barrier will be to work with people that do not accept the Word of God in their lives. I also think I will have difficulties in dealing with people that are not Christian and that have different thoughts.
What is your favorite Bible verse and why? I like Romans 8:31-39 which says, "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" This verse strengthens me because I know I have a God of the impossible with me every moment. |
