Program Details
Christian Child Survival Program
Program Name: Fauche Child Survival Program

Program Country: Haiti

Program Location: Fauche

Program Description:

Fauche Child Survival Program (CSP) serves little ones through age 3 and their caregivers, as well as expectant mothers. Mothers in this project learn how to prevent, rather than react to, the dangers children face in the community. Project workers make regular home visits where they teach guardians hands-on ways to keep their homes clean and prepare nutritious meals for their families. The project provides supplemental food supplies monthly, including milk, eggs, corn, rice and vegetables for each family.

Both pregnant mothers and infants receive medical screenings and treatment. With few ways to secure clean water, guardians learn how to purify their drinking water to prevent infections. While toddlers learn their colors and numbers in one room, their guardians have the opportunity to take literacy and sewing classes in the next.

Each mother in the program has the opportunity to attend Bible studies, and many mothers gather together for devotions after their child-care classes. This spiritual development is also passed on to the children, who learn Bible stories and songs that demonstrate the love of Jesus.

Fauche is a small community in northern Haiti. With a population of just 700, the village is far from schools and medical facilities. The closest hospital is 100 miles away, and children who suffer from dehydration and malnutrition can rarely make the journey. Nearly half of school-age children in Fauche never attend school, and only 8 percent graduate from high school. This lack of education has led to an unemployment rate of 80 percent, and those who can find work as traders or farmers earn less than U.S.$1 a day.

With the lack of job opportunities in Fauche, many men travel hundreds of miles into the Dominican Republic to look for work. This leaves many mothers alone to care for their families as they wait for their husbands to return with meager paychecks.

Your prayers and tax deductible contributions for the Fauche Child Survival Program provide mothers with the knowledge and the resources to raise happy, healthy children. You can make a difference in the lives of mothers and their infant children by becoming a partner for this project today.
