Christian Child Survival Program Charity
Program Name: Bernabe Child Survival Program

Program Country: Ecuador

Program Location: Quito

Program Description:

The Bernabe Child Survival Program (CSP) serves little ones through age 3 and their caregivers, as well as expectant mothers. Caregivers receive regular, nutritious food supplements and medicine as well as baby supplies. Classes and workshops are available to all registered caregivers, and include topics on job skill training, sewing and parenting skills.

Pregnant mothers receive regular prenatal care and have access to medical assistance based on need. Caregivers of young children learn how to lead their children in developmental exercises and how to monitor hygiene and nutrition. Mothers have the opportunity to participate in Bible study and discipleships classes, and learn the importance of teaching their children about the love of Jesus.

Project workers visit the homes of caregivers and children each week to monitor health issues and the progress of program participants. They also help ensure that children and caregivers receive critical nutritional support, timely immunizations and medical assistance as needed.

Thousands have established home in the Nueva Aurora neighborhood of southern Quito. While far enough away to avoid the high rent of Quito, jobs are scarce and half of the adults are unable to find work. Those who do find jobs work long hours in factories for little pay, often bringing home just U.S. $3 a day.

Nueva Aurora is still close enough to the city to absorb the effects of the alcohol abuse and gang violence that rock the streets of Quito. While the city offers basic medical care, only half can afford it, leaving children to suffer from respiratory infections, parasites and malnutrition. Most children in Nueva Aurora will gain a basic education, but only 30 percent will graduate from high school, dramatically decreasing their chances of getting jobs.

Your prayers and tax-deductible contributions for the Bernabe Child Survival Program provide mothers with the knowledge and the resources to raise happy, healthy children.  You can make a difference in the lives of mothers and their infant children by becoming a partner for this project today.
