  • Compassion-sponsored children are given regular medical checkups, health and hygiene education, HIV/AIDS counseling and testing, school tuition, and school materials.
  • Sports activities, field trips, Bible studies, and homework develop confidence and awareness of life beyond their circumstances.
  • The center staff provide home visits, income-generating projects and adult literacy classes for the parents of Compassion-sponsored children.
  • This church hosts a Compassion Child Survival Program that provides aid to 45 mothers and their infant children.

  • Attitudes and mentalities of the children have improved positively and they are gaining confidence.

  • The majority of the population is unemployed.
  • HIV prevalence has increased to 30 percent, one of the highest in Uganda.
  • Common health issues: HIV/AIDS and malaria (mainly under age 9).
  • Social needs: income-generating activities and schools.

  • Busia Town Baptist Church began in May 2003 after a door-to-door evangelization mission from their parent church.
  • This church is located between two mosques in a Muslim-dominated area.
  • Their church motto is: "Entering church to worship and departing to serve." 

  • This church has partnered with Compassion for three years.
  • Goals: progress in protection from malaria and increased school attendance. 

  • Parents/guardians can learn parenting skills and benefit from income-generating activities.
  • Recreational programs: music, dance and drama competitions, and sports that encourage confidence and creative contribution.
  • Workshops offered: Vegetable growing, tree planting, and life skills.
  • Children and their families hear the gospel and are encouraged to grow in their faith.
