El Nazareno Student Center

This church has 278 members and their vision is to spread the Good News of Christ and equip disciples to reach their city.  As a part of this vision, they host 288 children at their Compassion center where they participate in Biblical teaching and are given the opportunity to thrive spiritually and physically.

Talara Alta, Peru

288 children

Pastor Ricardo Orlando Madrid Mendoza is changing Talara Alta as he serves the children in Jesus’ name. This church oversees a Compassion child development program and is looking to partner with a church in the U.S.

  • Compassion-sponsored children receive regular health check-ups and health education
  • They receive tutoring and more in depth teaching on subjects that the public school system fails to teach.
  • Preventative health training, Bible studies, and parenting classes at the center’s Parent’s School is available for the guardians of these children.

I'd like to learn more about PE-333:

  • Most of the 127,000 people who live in Talara Alta have come from other areas of Peru in search of job opportunities. This influx of population has diminished job opportunities and public services.
  • The homes in this dry, desert-like area are mainly constructed of brick and cement with tin roofs.
  • Social concerns: dysfunctional homes, unemployment, alcoholism, drug addiction.
  • Main health problems: lack of healthcare centers, respiratory illnesses, malnourishment.
  • The Nazarene Church of Talara Alta has partnered with Compassion for 10 years.
  • The church began when their parent church in Talara realized they had a growing number of attendees from the Talara Alta area and saw an open door and need for outreach in that community.
  • Children and their families are hearing the Gospel and learning to practice Biblical values.
  • Nutritional meals, educational help, and loving support from the center’s staff are enabling children to grow in hope, confidence, and purpose.
*Consider using this profile as a tool to begin a discussion with your leadership to see how it may fit with your church's vision and mission. While we cannot guarantee you will be partnered specifically with this Pastor, we are seeking participants for our Church to Church strategy.
