Meet Compassion

Meet Compassion

Today, Compassion serves more than 1.5 million children in partnership with more than 6,650 indigenous churches in 26 developing countries. Our goal is to help children grow up to become healthy, responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.

Our ministry is unlike that of any other global, faith-based child advocacy organization. Here's what makes us different:

Our Foundation is Christ

A child in poverty is blind to the transformational understanding that he is loved by God, and was created in His image. That's why every child who participates in a Compassion program is given the opportunity to learn about Jesus and discover how to develop a lifelong relationship with God. The Great Commission is at the very core of what we do.

Compassion works one-on-one with each child in our program to transform their lives physically, spiritually, and mentally.
Our Focus is Children

To break the generational cycle of poverty, we must focus on releasing the children from its grip. Through our long-term holistic child development approach, we strive to release children one-by-one from poverty, transforming their health and hearts in Jesus' name. This kind of change has a bright, hopeful ripple effect on families and communities.

Compassion partners with indigenous churches to release children from poverty.
Our Partner is the Local Church

For communities mired in poverty, the local church is uniquely qualified to understand the real needs of her people and reach the children who need her care. As an existing part of the community fabric, the local church is viewed as a safe, trusted, Christ-centered refuge—a beacon of hope—for children and families in need.

Over the past 60 years, Compassion has built a reputation of trust among our constituent base.
Our Word is Everything

Compassion has been recognized for superior financial integrity by numerous publications and financial accountability groups, including:

 • Charity Navigator, which has consistently awarded Compassion International a four-star rating, placing us nationally within the top 1% of charitable organizations for fiscal responsibility.
 • The American Institute of Philanthropy's "Top Rated Charities."
 • Ministry Watch's 30 of the Brightest Shining Light Ministries.
