Olive Akullo

Orphaned at the age of 6, Olive was sent to live with an aunt and several cousins.  A few years later because of very crowded conditions, she was moved again and sent to live with an uncle who was better able to provide for her.  Registered at the age of 8, the Compassion project staff provided a stable “family” for her as well as hope for a future through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  She was eager to get an education and excelled in her studies.  Her natural leadership abilities were soon recognized, and throughout her years she was put in several positions where she supervised others.   Olive is very active in her church and in her community where she regularly attends meetings and speaks up for those less fortunate.  Her desire is to continue to develop as a leader and a counselor with the goal of being an advocate for children in poverty.

She is currently attending Denver Seminary where she hopes a Masters degree in Professional Leadership will help equip her when she returns to Uganda to open a counseling center and be influential in implementing policies in government, and hopefully to one day be on the Ugandan cabinet responsible for children’s affairs.
