Why Me?

Compassion believes that all Christians have been called to be child advocates. Proverbs 31:8-9 says, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and the needy."

You have been given certain gifts and talents that can be used to help a child. Whether it's volunteering to help out in the children's ministry in your church, getting involved in the local Boys and Girls clubs or reading stories to your own children or grandchildren, there are ways to use your talents for God's precious little ones.

Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train  a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." When you share your time, energy and talents with a child, you are shaping the type of person that child becomes in the future.

In Mark 9:37, Jesus said: "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." The Bible lays out a clear mandate for all Christians to care for children and the poor. When we do this, we are not only ministering to children but to God as well.
