The Micah Challenge

"He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6:8).

Wess Stafford has officially signed the Micah Challenge acknowledging Compassion's commitment to being a voice for the world's poor and doing our part to help absolve half the world from poverty by 2015. Read a letter from Wess to the Chairman of the Micah Challege.

The Micah Challenge, launched at the United Nations in New York on October 15, 2004, was created to mobilize Christians around the world to work together and campaign for justice for those who are poor, suffering and oppressed.

Part of their campaign includes mobilizing Christians around the world to work within their own circles of influence to challenge world leaders to meet the Millennium Development goals by 2015.

The Millennium Development goals, although aggressive, provide a necessary challenge to countries around the world to fight poverty. These goals are the most ambitious that world governments have ever made in battling poverty. Listed below are the eight developmental goals:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  8. Develop a global partnership for development

Get involved by signing the Micah Challenge yourself and join Compassion in this important fight for children.
