Christian Child Sponsorship - Compassion - Child Charity Organization

Sponsor a Child

Compassion: An International Charitable Organization since 1952

More than 50 years ago, American evangelist Rev. Everett Swanson went to a foreign land and found his Christian purpose. He found it among the dozens of abandoned Korean orphans lying in the streets, steeped in poverty with no one to help them. Swanson turned compassion into action. With a $50 check from a generous donor, Swanson created a child sponsorship ministry with just 35 orphans. Today, that legacy continues with the international charitable organization Compassion International. Our Christian child ministry now serves more than 728,000 children in more than 20 developing countries.

Sponsoring a Child with Compassion

By sponsoring a child through Compassion’s international charitable organization, you can help change the world one child at a time. Compassion meets the spiritual, physical, economic, and social needs of children in poverty worldwide.

Compassion is Christ-centered, child-focused, church-based and committed to integrity. Our projects are long-term development efforts that focus on the whole child. Compassion partners with churches around the world to administer our child sponsorship program. Our student centers are staffed by indigenous workers who are committed to administering healthy child development to the poor children in their communities. Sponsorship helps your child, but it also benefits your child’s family and community.

Sponsoring Children in Africa

Sponsoring children in Africa is a wonderful opportunity to give hope to a child who lives in an area that is plagued by problems, including widespread malnutrition, high child mortality rates, low life expectancy and a high population of people affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Many children in Africa struggle with hardships created by drought, famine, extreme poverty and violent local conflicts. By sponsoring a child in this region, you have the opportunity to forever change the life of a child in need. Sponsoring a child gives one little boy or girl the chance to develop into a responsible, caring Christian adult, and later have a positive impact in his or her own communities, churches and nations. In Africa, where the need is significant, people who are sponsoring children through Compassion are making a profound difference — one child at a time.

Sponsoring a Child Makes a Profound Difference in Africa

The profound difference sponsoring a child in Africa makes can been seen in the story of Ephantus Ngugi, a child of Kenya.

Ephantus grew up in poverty in the Dandora slum, which is essentially Nairobi’s garbage dump. The crime, disease, and substance abuse surrounding Ephatus threatened his survival. Going to school was a distant dream. Yet because of Compassion’s commitment to sponsoring children in Africa, Ephantus has excelled and grown into a healthy, conscientious Christian man. He was even a keynote speaker at his graduation from the Compassion-assisted Dandora Baptist Child Development Center in 2001. Using vocational skills he learned at the Center, Ephantus plans to attend a university and form a computer consulting agency. But he’s not leaving his hometown and will continue to minister to the lost in Dandora.

By sponsoring children in Africa, people are making lasting differences in children’s lives. You can help create your own success story. Sponsor a child today!
