HIV in Africa Wreaks Havoc on Young African Children
"Who can take in a child?" the pastor asks his congregation. In a Ugandan church, children who have been orphaned by AIDS in Africa and have no home are called to the front of the church each Sunday. While many members have almost nothing to call their own, one by one they take in these children affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa. Many of these families are able to help out because of Compassion's AIDS Initiative Program.
HIV in Africa: Not Just a Medical Problem
In the 1990s when people spoke of HIV in Africa, the virus was mentioned in purely medical terms. But the 21st century has written another chapter in the "HIV in Africa" storybook. This chapter details the social problems that come with HIV in Africa and the systematic destruction of a generation of young Africans.
Because of HIV in Africa, households already steeped in poverty bear much of the burden of taking in additional family members. Because of HIV in Africa, children have lost their childhoods and are forced to earn income for their families. Because of HIV in Africa, thousands of children drop out of school, making it much more likely they will be poor.*
HIV in Africa: Saving a Generation
The number of Compassion-assisted children affected by HIV in Africa is growing as the virus reaches epidemic proportions in many developing countries. But there is hope! Compassion's AIDS Initiative helps Compassion children affected by HIV in Africa. Children and their families receive voluntary testing, treatment, counseling and prevention education.
You Can Help Stop HIV in Africa
Although much work remains in this battle against HIV in Africa, your support and hope are critical to AIDS orphans. When you contribute to the AIDS Initiative or sponsor an AIDS affected child today, you are giving hope and acceptance to those who, because of this vicious disease, have become society's outcasts.
